Steve Jobs and Peeling the Onion
Yesterday Steve Jobs stepped down as the CEO of Apple (although Tim Cook had the title of acting CEO for a while). Though my guess is that Apple will continue to make marvelous products, it’s sad that Jobs won’t be as much apart of it as he has. I can’t think of a CEO that’s had a more visible positive affect on a company than Steve. One thing that he has been able to do is replace difficult solutions with simple ones. In a 2006 Newsweek article, he provided insight into how he and Apple do this. “When you first start off trying to solve a problem, the first solutions you come up with are very complex, and most people stop there. But if you keep going, and live with the problem and peel more layers of the onion off, you can often times arrive at some very elegant and simple solutions.”
